Interlibrary Loans

We welcome requests to supply inter-library loans to other libraries

We can obtain books, journal articles or theses which are not held in Roehampton University Library.

Inter-Library Loans free allocations for the academic year 2010-11

(new requests or renewals) are as follows:

  • Academic staff : up to 50 free ILL
  • Research students  (PhD ) : up to 50 free ILL
  • Postgraduate students (MA) : up to 30 free ILL
  • Undergraduate final year students and Education Certificate students : up to 10 free ILL
  • Undergraduate 1st & 2nd year students and Education Foundation students : up to 3 free ILL

When using your free ILL allocation please consider:

A standard ILL request is:

•         A book or whole journal request

•         A Secure Electronic Delivery/photocopy of article or chapter request

•         A renewal request

A thesis request is equivalent to 3 standard ILL requests

Once your free allocation is used up, you will have to pay a charge for any further requests, as follows:

•        Renewal: £ 3.00

•        Secure Electronic Delivery/photocopy of article or chapter: £ 3.00

•        Loan of book or whole journal: £ 3.00

•        Thesis: £ 12.00

Please ask the Library staff for more information. If payment is required it must be submitted with the request. Inter library loans take an average of three weeks to arrive, although journal articles and book chapters can be much quicker..

Journal articles and book chapters are delivered by Secure Electronic Delivery via email unless you specifically request a photocopy. This is faster and delivered direct to your PC. Please ask Library staff about this service or read the information provided.

Inter- Library Loan forms

Books

Request forms are available at the Library Enquiry desk or by downloading them from the links below. For a thesis both a request form and a thesis declaration form is required.

Filling in the forms

  • Give as many details about the item as possible to speed up the process (ISBN and ISSN are particularly useful).
  • A separate form must be completed for every request.
  • Provide personal contact details including a phone number and email address.
  • All request forms must be signed in ink as this is a legal requirement.
  • For copyright reasons only one article from a journal issue can be copied for the same user.
  • No more than one chapter or 5 per cent of a book can be copied.
  • Requests must be on our official forms (photocopies accepted). Please make sure you use the latest versions available.

Completed forms should be placed in the Inter-Library Loans box at the Library Enquiry desk or sent (by email or post) to:

Collecting and returning Inter-Library Loans

A signature is required both when collecting and when returning an Inter-Library Loan (book or journal). For this reason, Inter-Library Loan items can only be collected and returned at the Library Enquiry desk during core hours: Monday-Friday: 9am-7pm

Renewing Inter-Library Loans

Inter-Library Loans can be renewed only by contacting the Inter-Library Loans team (interlib@roehampton.ac.uk) and providing your loan reference number (FHJ number).

Every renewal request will be counted as a standard Inter-Library Loan request and will therefore be taken from your free allocation or will need to be paid in advance if you have used up all your Inter-Library Loans free allocation.

Our suppliers will only accept our renewal request on the item due date (not before) and we will receive a confirmation of the renewal a few days after the original due date. If you incur any fines because of the delay in the supplier response we will waive those fines.
