Media Services

The Media Centre offers assistance and advice to staff and students who wish to use a variety of graphics, desktop publishing, media software and hardware in connection with their course work.

How do I use the photocopiers in the Library?

We have photocopiers for general use in the Library. All you have to do is to ensure that you have credit on your University ID card (just like you do for printing) and then scan the card on the card reader on the photocopier.

Can I borrow equipment at the Media Centre?

Yes, we have a range of digital stills cameras, camcorders and digital audio recorders for loan. Equipment is available to borrow for 3 days and issued on your ID card. Staff will be available to show you use the equipment.

Can I edit some video or audio files somewhere?

You can edit video using Windows Movie Maker or Audacity for audio editing

Can I print a colour poster?

Yes, in the Media Centre. We can print up to A1 but please make sure all images used are 300dpi (dots per inch) or higher. Don’t take small pictures from a webpage and expect them to blow up to A1.

Can I bind my work anywhere?

There is a self-service binding facility and a vending machine with the necessary consumables (e.g. covers; spines etc.) which available 24/7.

In addition, there is an arrangement with Mail Box Etc in Putney to offer a discounted binding service to our students (on production of a student ID card).

Where can I  scan some documents?

Scanners up to A4 are available in the Media Suite.

Colour negative/slide scanning and printing is also available (there is a charge for this service).
