Cambridge Companions Online - Complete Collection

Cambridge Companions Online is the electronic version of the Cambridge Companions book series, and provides introductions to major writers, artists, philosophers, topics, and periods in the subject areas of literature, philosophy, classics, religion, and cultural studies.

Cambridge Companions Online - Shakespeare Survey Online

Early English Books   

Early English Books Online (EEBO) contains digital facsimile page images of virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America and works in English printed elsewhere from 1473-1700 .   It covers many subject areas, including: English literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, theology, music, fine arts, education, mathematics, and science. The works can be searched by title, image or subject, and in many cases from the full text. 

Encyclopedia of Children's Literature   

The Encyclopedia comprehensively documents and interprets the books read by children thoughout the world. With a global perspective that pays attention to significant international trends and the multicultural expansion of the field, it includes brief biographies of every major author and illustrator. Also included are feature essays on all genres of children's literature, individual works, and prominent trends and themes, as well as general essays on the traditions of children's literature in many countries throughout the world.

eScholarship Editions

The eScholarship Editions collection includes almost 2000 books from academic presses on a range of topics, including art, science, history, music, religion, and fiction. Over 500 of these titles are freely available. Use Browse Public Titles function

An online index to books including many that are out of copyright. If the book is out of copyright, or the publisher has given us permission, you'll be able to see a preview of the book, and in some cases the entire text. If it's in the public domain, you're free to download a PDF copy

100+ new  Ebooks on MyiLibrary

Roehampton University and Cengage Learning are currently undertaking a joint 2 year research project into impact of the use of ebooks at Roehampton.

For this purpose Roehampton University has been granted free access to the 100+ titles in the Cengage Learning e-textbook collections. The collections include the publisher’s bestselling titles or current editions so that students have access to the latest research and materials. The ebooks are available via MyiLibrary.  Access to the site is via Shibboleth.

New Pauly Online

The New Pauly is a recognised standard reference work for students and scholars of the ancient world. It provides comprehensive coverage of the ancient world from the prehistory of the Aegean (2nd millennium BCE) to late antiquity (600-800 CE). A special section of the encyclopedia is devoted to the reception of the ancient world until the present day and the history of classical scholarship. The articles in the New Pauly cover all aspects of the ancient world: persons, places, institutions, events, artifacts, technical terms, ideas and concepts etc.

Hockliffe Project

A collection of early British Children's books, which have been scanned to preserve the look of the originals. Freely available. Adobe Acrobat software is required to view books.

Oxford Text Archive   

A collection of 2,500 classic and academic texts in a wide range of languages.Most are freely available, although some require permission from the depositor. There are various formats available for download, including html and plain text.

Project Gutenberg

Over 6,000 well known books are available. They are mostly out of copyright texts published before 1923, including much classic literature and philosophy. Freely available, no payment required. Books are in the form of downloadable text files, which can be imported into Word Processing packages.

PsycBooks   

PsycBOOKS, from the American Psychological Association (APA), is a database of more than 16,000 chapters in PDF from over 1,000 books published by APA and other distinguished publishers. The database includes most scholarly titles published by APA from copyright years 1953 - 2005. It also includes 100 out-of-print books and a total of more than 400 classic books of landmark historical impact in psychology.
