RU Outdoors? environmental collective

RU Outdoors? is an environmental collective of students and staff at Roehampton University. We are cultivating some land at the back of Davies building, Froebel College, where we have an established an allotment. We are also developing a Forest Garden and woodland in which there will be trails leading to an outdoor amphitheatre.

Aims

In these fast-paced times where excess and mass consumption is the norm, we wanted to reclaim a space – a welcoming, inspiring, productive, environmentally friendly space – and let nature do its thing. We want to set an example of what can be done to show that we care about the environment.

Roehampton has long had the reputation of having the greenest campus in London and we are working hard to make it even greener through:

  • learning how to grow our own food
  • sharing enthusiasm, expertise and experiences
  • thinking outside the uni "box"
  • valuing everyone’s contribution; this is what makes the garden grow
  • finding what you need in the garden
  • letting the growing space evolve and setting our imagination free
  • being present in the natural environment and reconnecting with our "roots"
  • developing a real sense of our community
  • making a positive impact on our environment both locally and globally.
